Braden Labonte’s Monochrome Wildlife Studies

Braden Labonte’s work is a study in subtraction. A white tiger walks forward against a blank, pale ground with no habitat, no horizon and no colour at all — only the contrast between black stripes and white fur, shaded until the animal reads as sculpture.

Removing the environment is the whole argument: with nothing else to look at, you are left with the anatomy and the stride. It is the kind of restraint that works at thumbnail size and at print size equally.
