Christian Watson’s Microscopic Ink Drawings
Christian Watson posts to Instagram several times a day: cross-country adventures, vintage cameras, and, sporadically, miniature ink drawings that are often less than half an inch tall. The tiny illustrations mimic the rustic subject matter of his photographs — log cabins, lighthouses, animals — drawn so small they teeter on the tip of a pencil or crawl across the top of a finger.
Watson is an illustrator and the owner of 1924, and the micro-drawings are made with the same instrument he photographs: fine black ink, cross-hatched and stippled until a few millimetres of pencil tip holds a whole landscape complete with a smoking chimney. The scale is the stunt, but the drawing underneath it would hold up at any size.
