Dominic Kesterton’s Comic-Strip Illustrations

Dominic Kesterton draws comics the way a designer builds a diagram. Working from Edinburgh, he tells a story in a grid of flat, geometric panels: a black sphere rolls along a red brick wall, a tall vase shatters, and a figure in a fedora and red suit appears — first surprised, then quietly pleased with himself.

The palette is four colours and the line never varies in weight, which is what gives the strips their deadpan confidence. Everything is reduced to shape, pattern and timing, and the timing does the joke. Wordless, and funnier for it.
