Mateo Pizarro: Miniature Graphite Drawings
Mateo Pizarro‘s tiny graphite drawings are scarcely larger than the length of a match but contain enough detail to suggest entire stories, both surreal and terrifying. The Colombian artist calls them his Micro-Barroque series.
One circle holds a crowd so dense it reads as texture, thousands of tiny figures ringing a clearing of pale, rising dust; the match laid beside the sheet gives the scale. Another is a galaxy, stars and cloudy arms gathered around a bright core.
