Rebecca Louise Law Suspends 30,000 Flowers in Bikini Berlin
For spring, the London artist Rebecca Louise Law hung 30,000 live flowers above the atrium of Berlin’s Bikini Berlin, strung on copper wire and left there to dry over the life of the installation.
That decision — to let the work die rather than preserve it — is what separates Law’s installations from the usual floral spectacle. The flowers were donated by the Dutch growers Toll was Blumen machen and the piece was built to fade and fall from the start, which turns a seasonal gesture into a slow study of the thing it is celebrating.
