Sergio Mora’s ‘Mundo Mágico’
Sergio Mora’s Mundo Mágico is pop surrealism with the seams showing, in the best way. A boy with a huge round head and rabbit ears stands holding a hoop while a winged green snake coils around his legs; flamingos carry small girls; a grinning egg-man presides over a green castle with a staircase running out of its mouth. A banner at the bottom reads CANDYLAND.
It is deliberately unresolved — childlike imagery with something unpleasant underneath, scale thrown out and perspective flattened. The pastel pinks and reds make the unease land harder, not softer.
