Jeffrey Milstein – Photography

Jeffrey Milstein photographs machines against plain white. A flight recorder sits crushed, its orange casing split open to show the circuit boards inside, and the stencilled words on the side still read FLIGHT RECORDER DO NOT OPEN. Beside it, a steel pulley lies next to a nest of tangled wire.

Both objects are stripped of context and lit evenly, so the eye reads shape and damage rather than story. The series is called Einstein (on time). Milstein photographs the hardware of measurement, and how little of it survives the thing it was built to record. Jeffrey Milstein
