Eiko Ojala’s Cut-Paper Illustrations
Eiko Ojala gets a sense of depth and texture into editorial illustration that flat vector work cannot reach: carefully arranged layers of cut paper and cast shadow, stacked until the page looks folded rather than drawn.
The trick is that it is not a photograph. The Estonian illustrator assembles the work digitally, but often folds his own photographs into the process to get the shading to behave. Seen here are personal pieces, branding projects and editorial spreads from a year or so of work, all sharing the same quiet, tactile logic.
