Dually Sinister and Playful Solarplate Etchings by Jaco Putker

Netherlands-based printmaker Jaco Putker makes solarplate etchings, and his prints sit between amusement and dread. In one, a boy stands on top of a boulder suspended in mid-air, rope lashed around the stone and running off both edges of the frame.

In another, a girl in a white dress looks at a picture hung on the wall: a figure with long curved horns, holding two soft shapes. Potted palms, a patterned rug, a bare room, a single rope crossing the floor between them.

The drawing is fine-grained, and the grain is what holds the unease.
