Geometric Collages Created From Layers of Vintage File Folders and Index Cards
Augustine Kofie works in the paperwork of the office. File folders, index cards and steno pads from the 50s through the 80s, found at Los Angeles estate sales, are cut and layered into geometry. The title is the method: cataloguing the tools once used to catalogue.
The palette is administrative, manila and oatmeal and grey, broken by flat panels of orange. Printed rules, ledger lines and handwriting survive the cuts, so old labels read through the new structure. A compass arc, hatching and a black lattice press the planes together. Nothing is hidden.
