Martin Molin Builds Two New Instruments

Martin Molin of Wintergatan — the man behind the marble machine that swallowed the internet a few years ago — has built two new instruments and recorded a performance of an original composition, All Was Well.

The first is an elaborate take on the traditional music box, driven by punched paper tape that triggers individual notes; the second is closer to an electronic theremin. What makes Molin worth following is that his instruments are audible machines — the mechanism is part of the composition, not a detail hidden behind it.
