Ali Alamedy’s 19th-Century Photo Studio in 1:12 Scale

Ali Alamedy had been building miniature sets for seven years when he came across documentation of Charles Miner’s early-1900s photography studio. Inspired by the way sunlight was used to light those rooms, he decided to rebuild it at 1:12 scale — a project that took more than nine months and hundreds of feet of wood.

The discipline is in the research as much as the carpentry. An historically accurate studio is mostly a study of how daylight was managed before electricity, and Alamedy reproduces the equipment, the furniture and the light itself: miniature work that functions as architectural history.
