Bauhaus Dessau Identity

HORT has put forward a new identity for the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. The concept answers to the original ideas of Germany’s most influential Modernist school rather than to the visual habits of the present. That is the right way round.

The school did not decorate, it organised. An identity that starts from those terms has a reason to exist; one that starts from current fashion does not. What the foundation needs is a working system, not a period pastiche, and the studio’s starting point points that way.
