LYFE: The Levitating Planter by Simon Morris

The Swedish scientist Simon Morris spent more than a year growing common houseplants suspended in mid-air. LYFE is the result: a planter that hovers just above an oak base on strong magnets, turning slowly so that each side of the plant receives equal light.

The magnetism is invisible, so the effect reads as levitation rather than engineering, and the rotation solves a real problem instead of merely decorating one. It is the rare gadget whose trick has a purpose.

More: FLYTE.
