Oscar Lhermitte’s Topographically Accurate Lunar Globe
The product designer Oscar Lhermitte worked with the studio Kudu to build MOON, a globe that turns in step with the lunar cycle. At 1:20 million scale and assembled from NASA data, it reproduces the moon’s craters in genuine topographic detail, lit by a rotating “sun” that rakes across the surface and gives it depth.
It is the kind of object that makes an argument for slow design: no screen, no app, just a motor and a light source, and a room that quietly tells you what day of the month it is.
