Liam Wong’s Neon Tokyo
Liam Wong spends his days directing the visual identity of video games at Ubisoft and his nights photographing Tokyo, and the two jobs clearly feed each other: his images read like frames from a game that has not been made yet — all rain, signage and sodium light.
What he is really documenting is how completely the digital has colonised the physical city. Every surface is a screen or a light source, and the photographs treat that as scenery rather than as a problem. The Instagram archive is the real body of work.
