Panificadora Branding by Yarza Twins
Vigo’s Panificadora has stood in ruins for more than twenty years, and in that time it has become the city’s most important architectural leftover — a bread factory nobody can quite bring themselves to demolish. Eva & Marta Yarza, the Spanish twins working out of London, took it on as a brief anyway, imagining the identity the building might carry if it were reborn as a centre for arts, culture and youth.
It is speculative work with a serious edge. The twins work across new technology, fashion and typography, and here that range is put to a single civic question: what does a city’s memory look like when you give it a logo? Whether or not the conversion ever happens, the exercise argues the case better than a feasibility study could.
