An illustrated alphabet inspired by nature

Valérie Hugo is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Paris. For this alphabet she drew each letter in ink, then filled it with plants and animals.

One sheet holds a dark blue dahlia closing over curling leaves; another builds a B around a toucan and a flowering stem. Both carry stippled grounds and fine radiating lines.

Each print is photographed on weathered wood, the artist’s signature at the lower corner. The drawing is not decoration applied to a letter. It is the letter.
